There is a small farm just north of us near a town called Milan. They have a plethora of kitties and have been nice enough to let us come get some new colors when the mood strikes. We got a small group of 8 or so(I didn’t really count) after Annabelle lost Pumpkin Face last fall. One of the kittens was rather small and she had concerns of it making it through the winter. Annabelle assured her that she could give it the extra love and attention it needed. She is at least 6 months old and barely weighs 2 lbs. Our other kittens who are younger are triple her weight.
While Annabelle has certainly tried to nurture this ridiculously small kitten into being the healthy cat it should be, she continues to struggle to gain weight. Annabelle brings her inside constantly to give wet food and various meats from the fridge, we have dewormed her twice, and given her kitten formula. She continues to struggle and be a scrawny little bag of bones.
It rained tonight. On January 17 in Minnesota, it rained. I got home from a rather long Costco trip(thank you Apple Maps) to some very pathetic and wet kitties sitting on the front step. I went to pick up our scrawny kitten and could tell she lost weight again. I brought her inside and gave her some wet kitten food while we put away groceries. Once I finished I sat on the ground next to her and listened to her pathetic attempt at a meow. It was nothing more than a squeak.
I chose to do what I said I wouldn’t unless a cat was on deaths door. I set up the litter box. We now have an indoor cat(for the time being), my allergies are going crazy, and I will have to buy a poop scoop. I might have to invest in one of those fancy CatGenie self washing litter boxes if she is going to be inside long term, and look into allergy shots. Connor is less than thrilled but the kids will be excited. Im fine with it as long as she uses the litterbox and not the baskets of clean laundry that I do not have time to fold.
